Choose the new departure date first

Agree how long you want to stay and whose plans would actually change. Extending the trip for everyone is different from adding nights for one couple or family. Write down the new departure date and guest count so that every enquiry is based on the same plan.

Before changing a flight, ask the accommodation contact whether the same guests can stay for the extra nights. An online calendar does not guarantee that an existing reservation can be extended under the same terms. You need confirmation that refers to your dates and current booking.

Request a clear accommodation quote

Ask which nights are available, whether the extension belongs on the current reservation or needs a new confirmation, and what the revised total will be. Check payment deadlines and make sure the quote covers the full stay. Do not multiply the original nightly amount by the added nights; that may not match the actual offer.

If the group splits up, explain how many guests would remain and who they are. A booking does not automatically transfer to a different group or name. Ask how you will receive an updated confirmation and keep it before giving up other accommodation options.

Check the flight, ferry and return connection

For each traveller, review the original ticket and its change terms on the carrier’s site or booking channel. A seat being offered on a different flight and your fare being changeable are separate questions. Compare the change cost with buying another ticket, including baggage and services you already paid for.

For a return ferry, check the route and accommodation options on the operator’s website. Do not treat a change as confirmed until the provider accepts it and sends updated documents. Leave enough time between travelling back from Gallura and departure; reaching the port is part of the plan.

Adjust the car without paying for overlapping days

A rental agreement may specify return time, vehicle class and conditions for your particular booking. Contact the company through its official channel and ask whether the return date can move, how the total changes and whether the same services remain. Review the new summary before accepting.

If some guests leave earlier, compare the practical options with the cost of separate rental periods, a transfer or other transport available for those dates. Do not split vehicle use between drivers without checking that the company allows it under the contract. The best fit depends on actual arrival times and the home’s address, not simply the number of added days.

Confirm in order and save the new paperwork

For each part, note availability, revised total, decision deadline and written confirmation. If one change depends on another, wait for the confirmation that makes the next step possible. Store only useful documents in a place the group can access, and protect access codes and booking details.

Finally, check how arrival, key collection and departure time work during the longer stay. Extra nights do not automatically mean an earlier check-in or a later check-out.
