Reaching your Gallura home without a connection: save information before departure

Before leaving, save the exact address, an offline map of the area and your host’s contact details; download only instructions received through the official booking channel. This gives you a way to navigate and ask for help without assuming mobile data or Wi-Fi will always be available.

Get the home’s exact location

A property name or the centre of a village is not enough to find a holiday home. Ask the host for the full address and, if needed, a map point for the final approach. Compare it with the booking confirmation, especially where nearby roads have similar names or an entrance is private.

Do not infer the entrance from a public map pin or share a precise residential location with strangers. Save the authorised route and instructions you were given. Sardegna Houses homes in Arzachena and Pantogia near Porto Cervo are in different places; use the address of the property you booked rather than a better-known nearby destination.

Download maps and details before you set off

Navigation apps commonly offer offline map areas, but availability and coverage vary. Open the downloaded map before travelling and check that it includes your airport or port, the route and the home’s neighbourhood. A screenshot can preserve an address or junction as a backup, but it does not replace a complete route.

Keep a readable note with the street, municipality, host’s number and agreed meeting point. If you are driving, put the route on the driver’s phone and another group member’s device. Set it up while stationary and do not handle a phone while driving.

Store check-in instructions securely

If the host sends arrival steps, save them somewhere you can open offline. Check when any access code will be provided; do not assume it will arrive before the stated time. Treat access details carefully and share them only with people who need to enter. Avoid placing them in public chats or screenshots that can be forwarded.

Write down the host’s name, the agreed way to make contact and what to do if a flight is delayed. If you have not received arrival instructions, ask before travelling instead of improvising at the property. Do not assume independent check-in simply because a listing or message uses the phrase “self check-in.”

Plan a fallback without relying on signal

Save the contact with its country code and agree on a second way to reach the host, such as a regular call or a message through another person in the group. Mobile coverage varies by location and provider; no map promises continuous reception. If arrival depends on a call, confirm who will answer and when.

If you arrive through Olbia airport or port, save the official terminal reference and the details of any booked transfer. Do not rely on copied timetables from an earlier trip. Before departure, reopen your ticket and transfer confirmation and note how to reach the operator if plans change.

Test your offline plan at home

Switch on airplane mode and try opening your saved map, reading the address and finding the host’s number. Check that the phone is charged and bring the charger that suits your route. Ask another traveller to verify the key information, so the arrival does not depend on one device.

This simple test can reveal maps that were never downloaded, notes that require a connection or instructions buried in an old email account. An offline plan cannot remove every disruption, but it turns an improvised search into a short process: know where to go, whom to contact and which confirmation to check.

Frequently asked questions

Does an offline map guarantee that every road is covered?

No. Download the area and check the route, then also keep the written address and a contact for your host.

Can I assume check-in is self-service if I have a code?

No. Follow the host’s explicit instructions and confirm when and for which entrance the code is valid.
