Clarify what the listing means by parking

A listing may use “parking included” for a space assigned to the home, a shared area or the chance to leave a car somewhere nearby. Those are different arrangements. Ask the host to identify the exact area, whether the space is reserved for your booking and whether you can rely on it for every night of your stay.

Do not treat possible street parking as a private or guaranteed space. Ask whether access requires a permit, remote control or special instructions, and whether there are time, height or vehicle restrictions. If the listing does not distinguish the options, ask directly before comparing its price with another property.

Ask about access and usable dimensions

For a reserved space, request photos of the entrance and parking area, then ask for width, length, clear height and manoeuvring room. Check gates, ramps, bends and narrow approaches too: the stated bay size may not describe the route into it. Compare those details with your vehicle, including roof boxes or accessories that add height.

If you are travelling in a large vehicle, on a motorbike, with a trailer or with particular access needs, describe the situation to the host rather than assuming a general claim covers it. Ask whether the area is level, covered or shared when that affects your choice; do not infer these details from promotional images. Measurements and a few clear photos make comparison much easier.

Check the walk from the car to the home

The distance between the parking space and the entrance matters as much as the space itself. Ask whether you can reach the door without steps, whether the route is lit and what surface connects it to the home. If you have luggage, children or mobility requirements, check slopes, thresholds and where you can unload. “Nearby” is not precise enough to decide.

Ask the host to mark the access on a map or annotated photo, especially when an address leads to a complex with multiple entrances. For street parking, confirm that it is not a bookable bay and ask which official information covers local signs and rules. Conditions can differ by road and season; check the relevant notice instead of applying details from another town.

Confirm the terms and a backup plan

Before booking, ask whether using the space costs extra, whether it must be reserved and who is allowed to use it. Find out what happens if it is occupied or inaccessible when you arrive and whether there is an alternative. Keep the host’s reply or listing confirmation with your dates so you can see that it applies to your reservation.
