Budgeting for beaches and archaeology in Gallura: book what you truly want

The coast and archaeological heritage offer many possibilities, but you do not need to fill every day. Choose experiences that matter to your group, verify rules and availability directly, and spread costs across the trip. Some places have regulated access and need careful planning.

Choose a few priorities

Before booking, ask each traveller to name two experiences they most want. Compare the answers: a beach day may be free or involve a transfer, while a site or excursion may require a ticket, guide or reservation. Wanting an activity does not guarantee access; check the calendar before building a trip around it.

Group beaches and inland sites by area. Arzachena town is inland within the municipality, while coastal destinations are separate; check a map and current routes. A compact itinerary can reduce travel and leave more time for each visit.

Check how each place can be visited

For archaeological sites, use municipal or operator information to check which areas are open, whether a ticket is needed and if guided visits are offered. Do not describe every prehistoric monument as a nuraghe: giants' tombs and megalithic circles are different types. Choose a visit that suits your group's interests and the access conditions.

For the La Maddalena Archipelago, consult the Park and the excursion operator. Cala Coticcio and Cala Brigantina have access and guide rules; Nibani, Soffi and Mortorio are integral-protection areas. Do not plan landings or free stops in restricted zones. Access can change, so verify it again before departure.

Build a category-based budget

Keep transport, possible tickets, guided visits, boat trips and parking in separate categories. For each activity, check current price, inclusions, payment method and cancellation terms. Fees depend on date and provider; do not copy amounts from an old page or another operator.

Add an item only after checking that it is suitable and available for your group. If a boat day requires a reservation, ask what happens in poor weather or if plans change. Treat a visit as confirmed only when you receive confirmation.

Leave room for an unplanned sea day

Include a day without a ticket or fixed tour: a beach accessible under local rules or a walk can give the trip breathing room. Check services and conditions locally, bring what you need and do not assume an island or protected shore is freely accessible.

Review the plan after comparing costs and journeys. If money is tight, reduce the number of booked activities, not the checks you make. Choosing two visits carefully and leaving time by the sea can be more enjoyable than stacking costly stops with no time to experience them.

Frequently asked questions

Should I book every excursion before travelling?

Book ahead for limited availability or specific access rules after checking official terms. Keep other plans flexible and check for updates.

Can I visit every island in the archipelago freely?

No. Some areas are protected or subject to access rules. Follow Park requirements and use information from authorised operators.
