A solo Gallura holiday home stay: when is the space worth the cost?

A whole property can suit a solo traveller, but you may pay for rooms you rarely use. Compare the total cost for the same dates and weigh kitchen access, privacy, location, transport and flexibility against the plans you actually have.

Start with your days, not the floor area

For a solo trip, the useful question is not whether a home is large, but how you will spend your stay. If you plan to be out on excursions or at the beach and return only in the evening, a kitchen and generous living area may sit unused. If you want to work remotely, make meals or alternate outings with quiet time, having your own space may matter more.

Write a realistic outline of the activities you want to do and note which ones depend on a convenient base. You do not need to fill every day to justify a rental: the comparison helps identify features that improve your stay instead of choosing a property simply because it has more rooms.

Compare the complete cost for the same dates

Compare at least two options available for your whole stay, using the same dates and comparable terms. Include every item listed by the host or seller: final price, cleaning, any deposit, meals or services included, transport to the property, and cancellation or change conditions. A nightly rate alone does not make two offers comparable.

If one home includes a kitchen, estimate how you would realistically use it; do not assume self-catering always saves money, since habits and local prices matter. A smaller stay is not automatically cheaper either if its location means extra transfers. Request the full amount and read what the rules mean before paying.

Location and transport are part of the cost

Arzachena is an inland town within a municipality that also includes coastal places spread across different areas. A home in Pantogia is near Porto Cervo; do not assume it is within walking distance of the town centre or a beach without checking the exact address. Location can affect whether you need a car or other transfers, even on a solo trip.

Check the municipal mobility information for your dates and map the route between the stay, airport, shops and places you want to visit. Services and schedules can vary by season and calendar. If you plan to rent a car, compare its conditions and the trips it would enable; if you prefer not to drive, make a specific plan for reaching the home and your priorities.

Check occupancy, terms and flexibility

Booking for one person does not mean every stay can be adjusted at short notice. Check that the rate, included services and conditions apply to one guest, and ask how a whole property compares with a room. Read payment, deposit, cancellation, check-in and late-arrival terms before confirming.

If you might invite a friend, extend the stay or use the space to work, ask in advance whether this is allowed and what it involves. Do not infer from photographs that a desk, internet connection or specific equipment is provided: get confirmation for anything you need.

Frequently asked questions

Is a holiday home always too large for a solo traveller?

That depends on whether you will use the kitchen, common areas and private space. Compare its final cost and location with an available room or other stay, including transport and terms for the same dates.

How should I compare a home with another kind of accommodation?

Use the same stay dates and list the final price, included services, meals, transport, deposit and change rules. Then compare the features you will use, such as a kitchen, privacy and location.
