Five or seven nights in Sardinia: when a short trip costs more per day

Five nights can mean a higher daily average when travel and transfers are spread across fewer days, but this is not a universal rule. Compare the same services on real dates, then divide the total by nights and by days you can actually use.

Separate one-off costs from costs that grow with nights

For a useful comparison, split the budget into two groups. Put arrival and departure related items in the first, such as travel, the initial transfer and arranging a car collection. Put accommodation, any day-based rental and everyday spending that changes with duration in the second.

Do not assume each item is fixed or proportional: terms depend on the carrier, property and rental company. Use quotes for exact dates and party size. Olbia airport is an arrival hub, while accommodation and car-hire options should be checked through their respective official channels.

Calculate a daily average without hiding the total

Add all comparable items and divide by the number of nights to get an average per night, not a guaranteed price for every day. To understand how much of the stay you can use, make a second calculation using the days you expect to spend there after allowing for travel and arrival.

Always show the overall total beside the average. A seven-night holiday may cost more overall even if its average is lower; a five-night option may look cheaper only because bags, transfers or a car were left out. Do not compare one accommodation price with another offer’s complete total.

Make the two scenarios comparable

Create two columns with the same season dates, number and type of travellers, accommodation standard, luggage and transport approach. Request offers that include the same items for each duration. If flights are not chosen, leave that line as a field to fill in rather than replacing it with an invented estimate.

For car hire, compare actual collection and return times, the necessary class, cover and the supplier’s stated terms. A longer period could change the quote, but its amount cannot be inferred without an offer. Keep a record of inclusions and exclusions: a checkable comparison is more useful than an isolated starting price.

Choose according to the time left for the holiday

Sketch a simple sequence: departure, arrival, settling in, full days and return. If travel dates take up a significant part of a short stay, shared travel spending is spread across less usable time. Extra nights may lower the average, but only if the added days matter to your group.

Choose the duration after comparing the budget with realistic plans, without automatically filling every day. For a home in the Arzachena area, consider its exact location: the municipality includes different areas and Pantogia is near Porto Cervo. Check distances to services and the transport needed for the specific property you are considering.

Frequently asked questions

Do seven nights always cost less per day than five?

No. The result depends on prices, dates, transport and included services. Calculate both options from comparable quotes and show the total as well as the nightly average.

Which number of days should I use in the calculation?

You can show an average per night and separately per day you expect to use at the destination. Stating the denominator makes the comparison clear.
