Porto della Madonna: visit the natural pools with care

Porto della Madonna is the stretch of water between Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria; it is not another name for Spiaggia Rosa. You can admire the scenery from the sea, but a beautiful view does not authorize anchoring, landing or going ashore. Check the Park rules and current conditions before choosing an excursion.

A stretch of sea between three islands

The Park describes Porto della Madonna as the body of water enclosed by Budelli and the nearby islands of Razzoli and Santa Maria. It is a landscape of channels and contrasting coastlines, best understood as an area of the archipelago. The name does not identify a public beach or one guaranteed landing point.

Spiaggia del Cavaliere, on Budelli’s north-eastern shore, looks onto this basin and is described by the Park as a natural pool. The same official page says that erosion has left the beach only partly open since 2020. That old status does not tell you what is accessible now, so check the latest notice before planning any shore stop.

Spiaggia Rosa is a separate protected place

Spiaggia Rosa lies in a different inlet on Budelli’s south-eastern side. The Park classifies it as an integral protection area: access to the shore is prohibited, as are swimming, sailing, anchoring and stopping in the sea area in front of it. Viewing Porto della Madonna does not change those rules.

Travel photos and descriptions often connect the two places because both are on Budelli. For planning, keep the distinction clear: Porto della Madonna is the wider seascape, while Spiaggia Rosa has specific protection rules. Do not ask a skipper to approach or stop in a protected zone for a closer photograph.

Choose a boat trip without assuming a landing

If you want to see the scenery from the water, choose an authorized operator and ask which areas the itinerary covers, where the boat may stop and what is excluded. The route depends on current rules, sea conditions and operational decisions. A beach visible from a boat is not automatically a place where visitors may swim or go ashore.

If you are using a private boat, read the Park’s permits and regulations before entering the area. A boating ticket can govern navigation, mooring, anchoring and stopping, but it does not cancel nature-protection rules or grant general access to the islands. If the permit or local situation is unclear, contact the Park and postpone any shore visit.

A practical plan for the day

Before booking, check recent Park notices for Budelli and the rules that apply to your boat or excursion. Ask what happens if wind, sea conditions or a temporary restriction changes the route. A confirmed departure does not guarantee a particular cove, a swim or a landing.

Take water and sun protection even on a boat trip, and follow the crew’s instructions without collecting sand, shells or plants. If walking on a beach is your main priority, choose a destination with a land access route that is explicitly open and currently confirmed. Porto della Madonna is better treated as a flexible seascape outing, with expectations guided by the rules and the weather.

Frequently asked questions

Is Porto della Madonna the same as Spiaggia Rosa?

No. Porto della Madonna is the waterway between Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria. Spiaggia Rosa is a separate shore on Budelli’s south-eastern side, under integral protection and subject to specific prohibitions. A view across the basin does not authorize entry into the protected area.

Can an excursion land on Budelli?

Do not infer that from the presence of a beach or a boat nearby. The Park page says Spiaggia del Cavaliere has been only partly open; check current notices and ask an authorized operator which stops are allowed that day.
