Check the whole plan before paying

When departure is close, a common mistake is confirming one part of the trip before knowing whether the others can work. Check accommodation availability, your arrival connection and how you will reach the home and move around during the stay together. A search result shows a possibility, not a reservation: ask for direct confirmation for your dates and read the terms before sending money. Do not assume last minute means cheaper, or that an option shown online will remain available while you arrange the rest.

Accommodation: confirm availability and terms

Ask the host to confirm dates, guest numbers, the total amount, included items and any optional services in writing. Clarify payment, check-in, key handover, house rules and the change or cancellation terms shown in the offer. Do not assume an advert’s description means every service is available in every period. If a requirement matters, such as a facility or accessibility, ask for explicit confirmation instead of relying on pictures or broad wording.

Coordinate travel and local mobility

Check flights or ferries on the relevant operators’ pages for your chosen dates; old calendars and search snippets do not confirm current availability. Consider how you will get to the accommodation, especially if arrival and car collection happen at different times. For a rental, check availability, collection arrangements, required documents and applicable terms directly with that provider; do not generalise from another company. If you expect to use public transport, verify the service calendar for every day and the connection to your specific destination.

Cross-check before confirming

Keep confirmed dates and times, the address, contact details, booking reference and transfer plan together in one note. Make sure your arrival does not fall after the agreed time for accessing the home and that your departure fits the handover arrangement.
