La Maddalena park rules: easy mistakes to avoid

Park rules distinguish navigation, mooring, land access and integral-protection zones. A ferry ticket is not a nautical permit, and a booking does not authorise access everywhere. Check the rule for your activity and date, especially for Coticcio, Brigantina and Budelli.

Start with the right focus

La Maddalena Archipelago Park has different rules for navigation, stopping, land access and protected zones. A common planning mistake is to treat a boat trip, a beach visit and a permit as interchangeable permissions.

Plan the visit

Before choosing an activity, identify who operates it, where it takes place and what access title is required. A ferry ticket to the main island is not a nautical permit; an operator booking does not grant entry to a prohibited zone. Check Park rules for your date and vessel type, and keep the official reference.

What to check first

For a land visit, check whether the area is open or requires a guide and booking. Cala Coticcio and Cala Brigantina are TA zones; a land visit requires a GAE booked from the Park’s guide list. The Park contribution and guide fee are separate. Do not rely on old prices or capacity figures from elsewhere. Before setting out, decide what kind of day you want and check the relevant official information. Do not assume access, facilities or sea conditions.

Access and rules

Budelli lies near Razzoli and Santa Maria, but Spiaggia Rosa is under integral protection: do not plan to enter the beach or swim there. An island description or viewpoint does not imply landing is allowed. Check the Park’s current guidance on permitted routes and viewing points.

Who will enjoy it

A Park-compliant plan is also more dependable: use authorised operators when required, check sea conditions and stay flexible if a stop is cancelled. Take rubbish away, leave sand and shells in place, and remain on designated routes. If a rule is unclear, ask the Park authority before departure.

Frequently asked questions

Does a ferry ticket cover access to the islands?

No. A ticket covers the ferry journey; it does not replace permits required for navigation, mooring or stopping. Nor does it authorise entry to integral-protection reserves. Check the Park’s specific rules for each activity.

Can I decide everything when I arrive?

Arrive with one main destination and an alternative; access, openings and conditions can change. Recheck official notices, local weather and the return plan on the day, leaving room to change course.

What if conditions change?

Skip the unsuitable activity and choose a permitted alternative instead of forcing the route or sea plan. A Park-compliant plan is also more dependable: use authorised operators when required, check sea conditions and stay flexible if a stop is cancelled. Take rubbish away, leave sand and shells in place, and remain on designated routes. If a rule is unclear, ask the Park authority before departure.
