A Gallura home with toddlers: ask for detail photos, not just the living room

Promotional photos often show the living room and little else. With toddlers, ask for recent images of entrances, transitions and the spaces you will use every day. Explaining your needs before paying helps you decide whether the home suits your group, without assuming that amenities or safety features are present.

Ask for images that answer a question

A useful photo shows something specific: how you enter, where a staircase begins, what the outdoor access looks like or which doors separate rooms. Ask for recent views from more than one angle, not simply another living-room image. A floor plan or short video may add context, but check that it represents the actual property rather than a similar example.

Make the request concrete by explaining who is travelling and which everyday transitions matter to you. Avoid asking for a general “childproof home”; that is not a verifiable specification and can mean different things to different people. Ask for observable details instead, such as whether there are steps, how many levels there are and how the entrance is arranged.

Assess steps without certifying the property

If there are stairs, ask where they start and end and whether they are indoors or outdoors. For an entrance threshold, a measurement or close-up helps you judge how it may work with a pushchair and luggage. A photo does not establish legal compliance or prove that an environment is safe for a child. It helps you ask questions and make your own assessment.

The same applies to terraces and railings. Request clear images showing their height and spacing, and ask how doors and access points close. Do not assume gates, guards or locks are provided unless they are listed and confirmed. If a particular feature is essential, ask for a specific written answer before booking.

Check the everyday route through the home

Look at the path between bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and outdoor space: these are the routes you will use repeatedly. Ask where a pushchair can be kept and whether there is room for your luggage. If the child sleeps in a separate room, check its distance and the arrangement of doors. A wide-angle photo cannot reliably tell you the room dimensions or occupancy.

Confirm the items your group considers essential: cot, high chair, baby bath or specific tableware. Ask whether they will be present on your exact dates and whether they cost extra. If they are not included, decide before booking whether you can bring them or obtain them locally.

Factor in arrival and local travel

A home may work well inside yet be difficult to reach with suitcases, a pushchair or a child seat. Ask where luggage can be unloaded, what the entrance is like and whether the route includes steps. Check the actual address and transport for your dates. Arzachena is inland and its wider area includes different places; a property is not automatically close to the beach or services you want.

If you are hiring a car, ask the supplier how to reserve the required child seat and verify that it is confirmed for your booking. Ask the same question of a transfer operator before treating that as an alternative. Extras and availability depend on the supplier.

Keep the answers together

Save the photos and answers with the listing: entrance, stairs, terrace, equipment and arrival arrangements. This makes two homes easier to compare without relying on memory or general descriptions. If an answer is vague, ask a follow-up instead of treating it as reassurance.

Remote checks do not replace adult supervision or an on-site visit. They help you know what to ask before paying and avoid a surprise that might have changed your decision. Read the cancellation terms and ask for any promised feature to be included in the booking confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Can a photo tell me whether a staircase is safe for a child?

No. It can show the layout but cannot certify safety or compliance. Use it to ask precise questions and assess the property.

What should I ask before booking?

Request recent photos of entrances, stairs, terraces and indoor routes, details of essential equipment, and written confirmation for your dates.
